done well done is Secundino Hernández's second solo exhibition at Múrias Centeno, this time in Lisbon, after an exhibition in Oporto in 2011-2012. His work overlaps different times of an energetic intervention, vibrant, but at the same time, contained and well aware of the finitude of the support. One can sense the different stratigraphic layers over the canvas surface, a working process almost resembling a form of meditation for the artist, a daily exercise in seeking the plastic translation of a particular relationship with the world. Human figure, landscape and horizon are all reflected in lines and chromatic spots in a dynamic continuum, approaching drawing and painting in different planes. Secundino combines abstract elements and vaguely figurative, the sweeping gesture, vigorous and the minutia of small detail. The succession of different “paces” that we can feel in his work reflect the influences that collect the pictorial tradition. Hokusai, El Greco, Goya, Guston, Picabia, Michaux to name a few, converge in a plastic identity that Secundino Hernández has set over his artistic career, always paying particular attention to material research and seeking repeatedly for new working methods and processes in the studio.
